Gojira At The Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony Was Badass

It's a busy time for my team at work and nearly all of us were in the office yesterday. This is very rare. So I turned on our massive television to the Olympics opening ceremonies at 1 pm ET and we let in the play in the background.

I'm working away when I hear heavy metal guitars. Believe me when I say I whipped my chair around so fast. I was astounded at just how perfectly bloody METAL Gojira's performance was! I mean, it was truly a wonderful spectacle and fit the theme so well. Did you miss it? Watch below and if the video is removed, you can watch from the NBC Sports YouTube (which has lamely disabled embed sharing).

New Tony Iommi Music!

New music Friday! Black Sabbath legend Tony Iommi is back with a new solo single. It is called "Deified." The song is a soundtrack... for his cologne of the same name. Whatever sparks inspiration I guess.

Phil Collen Writes 'Hysteria' Graphic Novel

Def Leppard guitarist Phil Collen just wrote a graphic novel called Hysteria and it is available for pre-order now. Collen teamed up with writer Eliot Rahal and artist Alex Schlitz for the project.

Of course Hysteria is about a rock band. The post below says the graphic novel is "musically immersive." I'm not a graphic novel type of person, but lots of folks are so good for Phil and Def Lep here. Pre-order link is in the social post below.

Michael Schenker 'Rock Bottom' -- New Track

Michael Schenker has just released another track from his upcoming album My Years With UFO, due September 20. The song, "Rock Bottom" also features fellow German Kai Hansen. I figured London would dig this one.

A Gem From The Past: Poison 'In Concert' - 1991

In Concert was an ABC network series that aired on Friday nights in the 70s and later through the late 90s. Poison recorded a 1991 Irvine, California tour stop for the series and it is available on YouTube.

Honestly, I probably watched the concert when it originally aired on May 19, 1991. The 90s shows were simulcast on ABC radio stations as well.

Slash Cancels Shows After Family Tragedy

Lucy-Bleu Knight, the 25 year old step-daughter of guitarist Slash, has died. Knight is the daughter of Meegan Hodges. Slash and Hodges have been a couple since 2015.

Slash is currently on tour behind his new blues album Orgy of the Damned. It looks like four shows are currently canceled and refunds are available.

By Request: My Vintage .38 Special Shirt

As I mentioned in the .38 Special post about the new cover of their song "Hold On Loosely," my good buddy Joe gave me a vintage shirt from the band's 1984 tour.

It's from the "Tour de Force" run in 1984. Here's the front and back of the shirt. Like I said, it's too big for me, but I'll figure it out.

I love vintage concert shirts and I couldn't believe it when Joe presented it to me, just randomly in May. I told him he should have saved it for Christmas and he just shrugged. The shirt belonged to his older brother, now no longer with us. I will be a good caretaker of the shirt.

Here's the shirt: the horses are on the front.
